Our history

Carcafe Ltda is a Colombian company created in Cartago, Valle more than 35 years ago, it has been a national benchmark in the Coffee industry throughout its history, and today it is part of the multinational company ED & FMan, in its Coffee division: Volcafe.

1783

ED&F Man was founded by James Man as a sugar trading business.

1851

The brothers Salomon and Hohann Georg Volkart founded Volkart brothers in Winterthur - Switzerland and Bombay - India with the purpose of linking the coffee market between Europe and the Indian subcontinent.

1950

The Volkart brothers expanded their origins with Costa Rica, Brazil, and Guatemala.

1983

By this year ED&F Man had expanded internationally and opened offices in New York, Paris, Geneva, Rotterdam, Hong Kong and Rio de Janeiro.

1988

The Volkart company buys the Carcafe LTDA company.

1989

Swiss conglomerate ERB acquires the company Volkart Brthers Coffee and renames it Volcafe.

1989

Carcafe joins forces with Empresas de Nariño, reinforcing its presence in Colombia.

2004

ED&F Man acquires Volcafe, becoming one of the largest coffee marketing companies.

2013

Carcafe get compays of Nariño

2015

Volcafe develops and researches a global approach to sourcing high-quality and sustainable Arabica coffees.

2016

Volcafe Way is launched. The members of the Producer Support Organization (OAP) are trained in 9 countries.
